ONE CLOTHING ITEM FOR MULTIPLE STYLES: CREATING DIFFERENT LOOKS

I’m sure you’ve all heard of the capsule wardrobe. Its basic principle is a combination of clothing, shoes and accessories in various combinations in order to get as many looks as possible from the minimum number of things. This is a kind of subtle art that requires attention to detail and unconventional fashion thinking. But how do you create different looks with the same piece of clothing? Today we will discuss such topical wardrobe items for the coming season and consider their combinations with clothes and accessories of different formats.

CLOTHING COMBINATIONS IN A CASUAL CAPSULE WARDROBE

There are absolutely self-sufficient things: for example, the dresses or jumpsuits. Roughly speaking, they represent one clothing element, so the style in this case is determined not by a combination of different items, but by the design, the external characteristics of the material and the selected accessories. For example, if you take a black military jumpsuit and add a massive chain (or several layered chains), a bracelet and coarse laced-up boots, then we will retain a harsh and strong military style. But if you wear the same jumpsuit with stiletto pumps, add an unbuttoned neckline and a drop pendant, roll up your sleeves and dilute it with a contrasting thin belt and a handbag, you will become a daring and glamorous socialite. The look will become brighter and lighter due to accent colors.

A similar strategy can be applied to the dress. The stylish looks can be created using shoes of different designs, bags of different sizes, adding elements of outerwear and jewelry. For example, a basic plain sheath dress can be combined with classic pumps, a golden chain with pearls, an envelope clutch, a silk scarf and large-framed sunglasses. Therefore, you create a luxurious classic look in the 50s style. Well, if you combine a fitted dress with an oversize striped jacket, add Oxford shoes, a pendant on a long chain and a neat straw hat, we will get a casual look.

CREATING LOOKS IN DIFFERENT STYLES

There are also pieces of clothing that need to be combined with other items to get looks in different styles. These include shirts, blouses, tops, mini and maxi skirts, jeans, trousers in various styles, jackets, capes and denim jackets, as well as dresses with prints and ruffles. For example, eco leather trousers can be paired with a casually tucked-in elongated loose shirt, square-toed mules, large chains made of multi-colored metals and a large rectangular bag – this way we get a casual look of elegant street style. Or you can create a layered look and pair loose leather trousers with a bright chiffon blouse over a tank top, add a tweed or wool jacket on top, wear suede ankle boots and tie a neckerchief for an eclectic look.

But what if we need to choose different styles for a complex item, for example, a voluminous dress with a floral print? Do not worry, add some imagination, and you can come up with several looks even for such a difficult case. Pair it with a round suede hat, a vest, cowboy boots and a fringed scarf for a great boho look. And if you add sandals on a flat platform, layered bracelets, thin chains and a wide belt, it will form a great look in a romantic style.

Mixing styles in clothes is a great trend, because it gives us the opportunity to express ourselves and our tastes in a million different variations. The main thing is to be bold and not be afraid to experiment: then even the most modest wardrobe will sparkle with new colors.
