HOW TO WEAR LINEN CORRECTLY

Linen is a fabric known to our ancestors. Previously, almost everything was made of it – shirts, skirts, tablecloths, bed linen, towels… Among the most common materials were hemp, wool, and, of course, flax.

Today we will tell you why linen deserves a special place in the modern wardrobe of women. Let’s figure out how to wear linen correctly and find out the main care secrets!

WHY IS LINEN CLOTHING GOOD?

Linen was undeservedly forgotten when synthetic fabrics appeared – they were brighter, more affordable and less wrinkled options. But now, fortunately, there is an understanding that eco-friendly materials are much better! And we tell you why on the example of linen:

  • Conducts moisture very well. This fabric easily absorbs water and dries quickly – this is especially true in summer.
  • Natural antiseptic. Another non-obvious property is that linen prevents the development of microbes, which means that neither irritation nor an unpleasant smell could be felt in such clothes.
  • Regulates heat transfer. This fabric has an amazing property to “repel” the sun’s rays. Even on the hottest afternoon, this dress will feel cool to the touch – which means you will never feel too hot!
  • Strong and durable fabric. Unlike cotton and satin, which become thinner and torn over time, linen practically does not change with time.
  • Suitable for children. For all the reasons described above, there are no better outfits than linen for little buns!

WHAT ARE THE DRAWBACKS OF LINEN?

This wonderful fabric has its own characteristics that not everyone likes. So, what’s wrong with linen?

  • It wrinkles. Unfortunately, such a fabric is instantly covered with folds and is not so easy to iron because of its density. What to do? Choose printed clothes! The smaller the print, the less unevenness is visible. Take this life hack into service!
  • It can also possibly shrink with improper care. Any item made of linen can shrink over time – by 1-3% with proper care, and more – if you handle it incorrectly. The solution to this problem is simple: choose things that are not too tight! Firstly, oversize is still in fashion, and secondly, this way you will save yourself from the unpleasant consequences of shrinkage.

HOW TO CARE FOR LINEN CLOTHING CORRECTLY?

Let’s now discuss how to care for linen clothes so that neither shrinkage nor increased wrinkling of the fabric becomes a serious problem for you. All this can be avoided if you properly care for linen items:

  • Hand wash it. Of course, it is also possible to use a washing machine – but at very low speeds and without the use of aggressive and chlorine-containing laundry detergents.
  • If your linen jacket has a dark color – wash it for a short time: 7 minutes at 30°C is enough! If your dress is printed, has a light shade or has not been dyed at all, the temperature can be increased to 40°C.
  • Do not use high spin speeds – as you remember, such a fabric is very wrinkly.
  • It is better to dry such clothes in a horizontal position and avoid direct sunlight to avoid color fading.
  • It is better to iron linen clothes while they are still slightly damp – this will make it easier to smooth out the wrinkles. If the moment is missed and the item is already completely dry, you need to iron it at the maximum temperature (up to 200°C) and with moisture.

As you can see, linen clothing has a lot of advantages, and they may well cover the disadvantages. Moreover, we have described in detail how you can work with the characteristics of the fabric so that your skirts, dresses and jackets made from this material bring you only joy!
